Don't feel bad if this is news to you, 5B is here to help! Many people think that it is ok to throw batteries in the garbage when they don't work anymore. Throwing batteries in the garbage is actually very harmful to the environment and to us!

Batteries Contain Harmful Chemicals

All batteries have hazardous chemicals such as acid and heavy metals in them. Over time, these chemicals are released into the environment. Some batteries are more dangerous than others. Chemicals such as Mercury, and Lead Acid are extremely dangerous. Less harmful chemicals found in batteries are Carbon Zinc, and Lithium.
